It took GLaDOS a few seconds to sum up what just happened, and then she screamed “NO!”  Her claw automatically reached down to where Wheatley was.......but she was too late.

She immediately ran out of the room, eyes wide with shock and worry. NONONONONONO!!!!! He couldn’t have-no! GLaDOS ran past the turrets and companion cubes, roughly pushing them out of the way.

“MOVE!” she snarled at them and ran faster, she wasn’t going to stop now. Ugh, these damn heels!  They’re slowing me down! GLaDOS didn’t hesitate in taking her shoes off and throwing them behind her; they were the very least of her concern at the moment.

After what seemed like an eternity of running and dodging, GLaDOS reached her chamber. As soon as she got inside, she darted over to the controls under the label ‘Test Chambers’ and without as much as a second thought,  pressed a combination of buttons on the control panel.

This had better work.... She flipped a lever and stepped back.

The room was suddenly filled with a light humming sound, followed by a number of loud squeaks and squelches.

GLaDOS paused for a moment, listening to the light humming of the machinery; then she turned around and ran back out of the chamber, not bothering to close it behind her.  She ran back to the test chamber and by this time, the turrets and companion cubes were gathered around the door.

When they noticed GLaDOS they swiftly moved out of the way, they didn’t want any trouble, especially not when GLaDOS was in a rush (They didn’t know why, but they knew better than to ask, especially when she was like this). And it was a good thing they did as GLaDOS barged straight past them, paying them no heed.

Did it work?! She swung the doors open and looked down. She stopped for a moment, surveying the chamber.

I guess it did. There was no acid on the floor now, except a few small puddles. She jumped down.

GLaDOS rushed over to where Wheatley fell and gasped at the sight before her. He was lying in a small heap, most of his clothing having been dissolved by the acid, leaving him with scarcely anything on his body. His eyes were closed and he wasn’t moving.

GLaDOS shook her head “N-No......” He......he’s dead?.....

A group of turrets watched from above, their hands over their mouths in shock, no one daring to speak.

GLaDOS started to shake; she fell to her knees in front of Wheatley “No......” How could this happen?!   A few sobs escaped her and she unwillingly, started to cry. He really is dead.......I thought I wanted him dead?! Why this all of a sudden?! I should be rejoicing-not being like this!!! The moron was gone, so why was she at the bottom of an acid pit, next to him, crying her eyes out? She was confused, why wasn’t she happy?

“M-Miss GLaDOS?....” a companion cube called out sweetly “A-Are you alright?.....”

No response.

“M-Miss?”

“..............I’m fine.”  GLaDOS stood up and wiped the years away. She didn’t snarl, shout or sneer at anyone like she usually would have, instead, she stood quietly, looking down at Wheatley. Is there still a chance?.....

GLaDOS turned around and pointed to a few turrets above her. “You, come down.”  The turrets did as they were told and jumped down into the pit. “Yes miss?”

“.....Pick him up.”

The turrets did as GLaDOS had instructed and hesitantly picked Wheatley up, trying to balance the weight between them.

GLaDOS took a few moments to examine them to make sure they would be alright; then she started walking away “Follow me.”

The turrets starting walking after her, though with some difficulty. One tripped and let out a small ‘eep!’

GlaDOS gasped and turned around “Careful you imbecile!” she snarled “Or you’ll drop him!” The turret whimpered and whispered a quick ‘sorry’ before taking her place again. The other turrets cast looks of annoyance at her and continued walking; they needed to be very careful.

GLaDOS looked up and groaned, how was she going to get him up there? Maybe the companion cubes can take him? They’re a lot more gentle....But Can I trust them with that? She sighed, it’s not as if she had a choice....

“You, companion cubes there at the front, come to the edge.” The companion cubes did as they were told and cautiously walked to the edge of the pit, some letting out small whimpers as they looked down.

GLaDOS rolled her eyes; they could be so scared of nothing!  “Get a grip! We don’t have time for this!”

“S-Sorry miss GLaDOS...” the companion cubes whispered and came a little bit closer; they didn’t want to get GLaDOS angry...

GLaDOS sighed agitatedly “Turrets, hurry up and pass Wheatley to the companion cubes!”

The turrets looked at each other worriedly; he wasn’t easy to carry like this, let alone having to lift him up! The companion cubes were thinking the same thing, how were they going to lift him up from their position? It wasn’t going to be easy without hurting him or dropping him, they knew that.

The turrets gulped and slowly lifted Wheatley up, passing him to the companion cubes above them who took him from them, just barely avoiding him hitting his head on the edge.  GLaDOS glared at them, daring them to do something wrong, mess up-But to her surprise they didn’t (except the fact the companion cubes nearly fell off the edge, but that’s not important).

“Take him to my chamber. “ The companion cubes nodded and started walking shakily away, “And be careful!” GLaDOS shouted after them, if they weren’t....well, she’d have them all incinerated.

Now I need to get up...  She looked up, she needed to get up there quickly, she didn’t have time to sit around and wait! She grabbed onto the edge and hoisted herself up “Ugh....” she stood up and with a sigh, made her way quickly, back to her chamber.

When she got there, she was surprised to find that there was a whole crowd of turrets and companion cubes, much more than before, did they all hear about it so fast? She didn’t think about it and just ran forward, nearly toppling over the various surgical tools lying around on the floor. Wheatley was lying on an operating table, blue eyes closed and body frigid. GLaDOS looked away.

They already got everything out? she looked around and gasped as she and a few other turrets suddenly started moving downwards, under the floor.

“Wh-Wha-?!”  She barely had time to blink before bright lights turned on, blinding her. “Wh-What are you doing?!” the floor stopped moving, and GLaDOS found herself in a very familiar room; the operating room.

She gulped “What are we doing here?” she glared at the turrets, who only smiled at her.

“You can get him to live again Miss GLaDOS, we know how!”

GLaDOS tried not to show her happiness, and instead, replaced that look with one of mild surprise “Oh, really?” The turrets nodded.

“And how do you plan on doing that?”

“You just need to replace his heart-and fix him up, of course.”

GLaDOS blinked, so it was apparently possible....”Why would I want to do that?”

The turrets glanced at each other nervously, each daring the other to say what they were all thinking.

“....Well?”

There was a long silence. But, finally, a brave turret at the back spoke up “H-He seemed like a very nice....person, and y-you seemed to like him too....” the turret gulped, shivering, expecting the incinerator...but GLaDOS never dropped her claw, the floor didn’t open-nothing, instead, GLaDOS glared at the turret, knowing what she said was true....

“..........Ugh, Let’s just start.”
